SGS Girls Run Away with State Track & Field Title

The SGS girls’ track and field team ran to the front of the pack at the 2B State Championships in Cheney on May 26-28, capturing the overall State Championship with 113 points, 24 more than 2nd place Okanogan. The Dragons were particularly strong in the relay races, winning the 4×100 meters and the 4×200 meters, as well as the 4×400 meters for their 6th consecutive state title in that event! Kudos to the 4×100 team of Audra Gliniak, Margreit Galow, Andee West, and Fair Niven; to the 4×200 team of Carsyn Gildehaus, Margreit Galow, Andee West, and Savvy Briceno; and to the 4×400 team of Georgia Steele, Maggie McLaughlin, Savvy Briceno, and Josie McLaughlin. Josie also won individual state titles in the 800 meter and 1,600 meter races. Other top finishers included Fair Niven (2nd in 100 meters, 2nd in 400 meters, 4th in 200 meters), Regan Thomas (3rd in 1,600 meters and 3rd in 3,200 meters), Savvy Briceno (3rd in 400 meters, 4th in 300 meter hurdles), Margreit Galow (4th in long jump), Sophia Tehrani (5th in triple jump), Maggie McLaughlin (5th in 800 meters), Carsyn Gildehaus (6th in 100 meters), and Georgia Steele (6th in 400 meters).
