Saturday, October 10th is The Lands Council's annual Reforest Spokane Day! Melanie Mildrew, SGS Director of Community Service Programs, says they have an ambitious goal to plant 3,000 trees in one day and need volunteers to make it happen. The project is at Marshall Creek and spans acres of beautiful farmland located between Cheney and Spokane that is undergoing a massive wetland restoration project. There is plenty of room to spread out and maintain distance, while enjoying the scenery and taking part in a transformative project. Get more information and sign up for a Volunteer Shift Here.
Share your adventure! Students can send a photo and caption of where they are and what they are doing to David Holte and he will post it on the SGS Outdoor Club Instagram page (sgsoutdoorclub). This is a public site, so we won't post students’ names. All photos need to represent our school values, so do not put the photographer or members of the party in harm’s way and be sure to practice the general Covid health guidelines of the Spokane Regional Health District. Photos that do not adhere to these standards will not be posted. Email your entries to both Holte and Melanie at email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org from your school email address.
Saint George's students, families and staff helped clean up the Spokane River on Saturday, Sept. 26. "We picked up three abandoned homeless camps across the river from People's Park," says Melanie Mildrew, SGS Director of Community Service Programs. Working in family groups, they filled 11 bags of trash, including clothes and a suitcase. See a Photo Gallery of SGS participants at this fun service activity.
The Lands Council has delayed their annual Spokane River Cleanup until Saturday, Sept. 26 from 8:00am to 2:00pm. Families can Sign Up Online and then select a section of the river to clean of garbage and debris. It's a big river with multiple locations around the city, so it will be easy to socially distance. If you form your own group, let Melanie Mildrew know if you plan to meet the other SGS groups at 11:50am in People’s Park.
