    Dear Friends,

As the premier institution in K-12 education in the Inland Northwest, Saint George’s is always striving to lead the way in education for the 21st century. We do this in a number of ways. We offer outstanding independent curricular offerings and enhance our curriculum with programs like the Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum and soon the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. We have co-curricular programs like Debate that are recognized nationally, a competitive Robotics program at all divisions of the school, a Chess program that is headed to state competitions, and performing and visuals arts programs that continually win competitions for their exemplary work.

As a leader, Saint George’s continues to be the first to do innovative work in education in the Spokane area. In March, the school will be introducing another first to the city of Spokane. On Tuesday, March 20, 2012, Saint George’s will host the first TEDx conference in Spokane ever. TED, for those of you not familiar with it, stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. The group started in the late 1990s as a way to share ideas about topics in those three areas. They had the best and the brightest come to their conferences to do short talks ranging from two minutes to 18 minutes about ideas related to TED. They have, of course, expanded beyond just those and now incorporate many ideas. TED’s tag line is “Ideas Worth Sharing” and today one can find TED at www.ted.com. I would urge you to go to the website and browse it to find interesting talks about myriad subjects.

Saint George’s event will be called a TEDx or an independent program that is licensed by the TED parent company. Jamie Tender, our Middle School Director and TED expert, is the host of the program and talks about it in his Homer today. Please see the link in the Homer. Information about our TEDx can also be found online at www.tedxsaintgeorgesschool.com. You can find all the information you need at this website including who will be speaking (international and national education leaders, doctors, actors, athletes, innovators, and yes even our faculty and students). We have a full production crew from KHQ assisting with the production, and parent, Mark Mohr, is serving as Executive Producer. After the talks, we will submit the program to www.ted.com, where the individual talks will be available for the world to view.

The school will continue to have annual TEDx events that will be hosted at the school, and we expect to have another great list of speakers that will open our minds to different ideas about how we look at the world. As leaders in education and innovative thinking, we will continue to host these and similar events at Saint George’s to inspire thought and discussion about ideas that impact our world.

Saint George’s School… Inspiring, Leading, Serving!

    Cheers,

    Joe
