Saint George's Wins State Scholastic Cup
Posted on: June 2
For the first time, Saint George's has won the Wells Fargo Scholastic Cup, a statewide honor for schools that recognizes outstanding performance in both academics and athletics! Our teams' great performances at state competitions throughout 2007-08 and their high grade point averages earned us the Scholastic Cup for 2B schools. We overtook Evergreen Lutheran with our achievements in track and tennis on the final weekend of state events in May.
The Wells Fargo Scholastic Cup recognizes performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface. Schools that finish at the top of their respective classifications in state athletic competition receive points, as do schools that finish at the top in team academic performance. Sportsmanship is also a factor, with substantial points deducted for ejections from contests. At the end of the year, the school with the most points in their classification is awarded the prestigious Scholastic Cup! Check the WIAA Website for the full list of Scholastic Cup scores by school.
Congratulations to all Dragon athletes and coaches for this prestigious honor!
