College Trips

Visiting different colleges helps students focus their own search

Nothing beats seeing it for yourself. Saint George’s ninth graders follow that advice each year with a day-long visit to a private college in Eastern Washington. Sophomores spend three days as a class exploring a variety of schools in Oregon and juniors can choose from week-long trips to visit California or East Coast colleges and universities. They talk to current students, tour the campuses, get a feel for life at college. And they discover how competitive the admissions process can be for top public and private institutions.

For example, the 2016 Spring trip visited California and visited Orange Coast College, University of California Irvine, University of California San Diego, University of San Diego, Palomar College, University of Redlands, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer College, Claremont McKenna, Pomona, Scripps, Chapman University, Pepperdine University, Occidental College, Cal Tech, University of California Los Angeles and Loyola Marymount University.

Exploring different schools allows students to compare urban and rural settings, religious and non-religious orientations, big public universities and small private colleges to find the right school for them.

When we visit admissions, people on these trips, they sell their school to us and we sell the quality of Saint George’s students to them.
